Who
A software engineering leader in Austin, Texas. Technology is my main tool; my objectives are solving real-world problems. Ideally, I do it through building teams of individuals smarter than me so we can accomplish great things together.
What
Career Journey
Coding Java at IBM, building 3 startups that didn't take off the way I hoped, developing custom full-stack tools using Python and React for a Facebook Pixel marketing firm, and leading globally distributed teams of exceptional engineers and managers at Homebase through gnarly initiatives.
Projects
Building a 1965 Shelby Cobra replica from scratch, hi-fi 100W audio vacuum tube amplifiers, figuring out how to allow Django to handle SSL and WebSocket traffic (before it was ASGI native) with a quick-and-dirty CI/CD in AWS, dipping my toes in statistical analysis with TensorFlow.
Why
Because life goes by in too quick of a blink and if we are not using all our talents to contribute into tomorrow, then what's the point?
How
This website has a living document on how I approach engineering and leadership. From hiring principles, detailed instructions for a fruitful interview process, how to handle trust-building in high-performing teams, how to grow effective leaders, and approaches to code quality, leveraging documentation to unlock async-ness in a remote world, and measuring engineering success.
